Dear Aunt Lisa,

How are you?

Aunt, for Summer, I am going into Camp, the name of the camp is Camp Kayak and it is the best Camp I ever go to. It’s fun in camp, there are 12 counselors and C.I.T.’s who are the best. They are friendly and helpful. In camp we re doing Dance, Singing, Art, Writing, Biology, Cooking, Rhythm, Photography and others – all that is really cool. I wish you were there, you would enjoy it, and the ruler of the camp is this beautiful woman, she has blue iris and I love her long yellow hair that makes the children want to play in it. Her name is Miss Victoria and she is a kind and loving person and I love her.

soldier crabs…
August 28, 2011

Hi it’s Tracy, this is my third day at Camp Kayak. Guess what class we went in? Biology – with Miss Erin (or Miss E). We went on the beach to collect soldier crabs on Paradise but there were none, so we walked over towards Sands…we brought back about 10! I even found a Donkey, but it’s not a real donkey, it is a branch! a big branch, I climbed on the branch and started saying ” he haw he haw” and Miss E said ” you are so silly”! Close to the donkey branch were several soldier crabs to bring back to our habitat at camp. It was a fun day.

The first day…

Aug. 15th

My first day of Camp Kayak was fun, because we played cricket and we danced. First of all we had to get a T-shirt. There were eight different colored jerseys. The eight different colors are purple, orange, red, maroon, green, turquoise, yellow and blue. I got purple. There are eight children in each group. The names of my friends in my group are Abbia, Wintress, Cerine, Edwin, Travis, and Tyrece…don’t forget me “Roselene”. For lunch we had rice and peas, BBQ chicken, and salad we had juice. The food tastes delicious. After lunch the purple team washed the dishes and it was fun! After washing dishes we got ready to go to the beach. Everyone got ready in their bath suits. We got noodles, a life jacket and goggles. So we went to the beach, and the water felt cool. We were all bathing and suddenly it satrted to rain. We all stayed in the water while it rained and had fun, after a while we had to go back to the stadium, so we got our stuff and left paradise beach. When we got back we took a bathe and went to change. When we came outside we got dessert and then the bus came for us. Then we headed off to drop the kids home.

Everyday Camp Kayak gets better. Today I went to music class with Miss Rebecca. We learned the camp kayak song and then we beat drums and had lots of fun. I also played with the other children. Our lunch was pork, macaroni pie and salad – yum! After lunch we watched a little dancing by another color team and we went to the beach. I was swimming with Miss Anna and Miss Erin – I HAD A GREAT DAY AT CAMP KAYAK – everyday is fun under the sun!

There It Is!
July 6, 2010

My name is Ella and I attend Hillsborough Primary School. I just came from Grenada yesterday, via the Osprey, and I spotted the Camp Kayak container at the port, in with loads of other containers – there were stacks of three and the Blue Camp Kayak container was the TOP one!

I yelled in the car to my Uncle and cousin Joe – saying: “hey there it is! Victoria’s container for Camp Kayak!” it stood out from the others so clearly!  We got onto the ferry and watched for it again, all you could see was the big blue sides from the water – and half the word “Kayak” was clear.

When we got off the ferry in Carriacou we shouted to Auntie Karen “we saw the container!” we described it to Auntie and then to Mummy and everyone got super excited about it – especially me! Extremely – because I know I will go to Camp Kayak this summer and really enjoy myself! Now I am part of the process too because I was the first Carriacou person to see the multicolored container arrive in Grenada!

Even though school ends this week and normally I would focus on reading or holiday, I am now really, really looking forward to Camp instead!

Heard About Camp Kayak
May 6, 2010

I’m writing to you because I thought you should know that I helped hang the posters, they look great.  This one is right in the Hillsborough Post office and lots of people can see it everyday! We put one in the center of town, and at the Juppa too! In the schools each poster is right bye the principals office and lots of kids are beginning to talk about it in school. I heard the song on the radio and was excited that there will be so much going on. My mom tells me that I can go to camp this summer, so that’s pretty cool! I’m looking forward to all the things I can do! Anyway, just thought I’d let you know. See you soon in Carriacou!
